Parish Meeting this Tuesday 12th March

The Annual Parish Meeting will be held on Tuesday 12th March 2019, in the Roysse Room, Guildhall, Abingdon-on-Thames at 7pm. 

All interested residents are welcome to attend. 

Held once a year the Annual Town Meeting is organised by the Town Council on behalf of the electors of Abingdon.  This is not a Council meeting but is an opportunity for residents to raise and discuss matters affecting the town and express their views.

Give the recycling wheels a spin!

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils have made it even easier for residents to check which bin their waste items go in by using the councils’ new recycling wheels.

The councils have produced the wheels to help increase recycling rates by promoting the kerbside recycling collections and making sure residents are putting the right things in the right bins.

Update waste collections week commencing 4 February 2019

The snow last Friday (1 February) caused unsafe driving conditions for our waste trucks so we decided to cancel our waste collections  on that day. We will begin catching up on Monday 4 February. Unfortunately this will have a knock-on effect on collections for the rest of the week.

GUILDHALL REOPENS AFTER REFURBISHMENT

OPEN WEEKEND 16th-17th FEBRUARY

The Guildhall buildings are now open for hire after extensive refurbishment.

The team which runs the Abbey Cinema in the 1960s extension to the Guildhall and the Unicorn in the Abbey Buildings, is now managing the Guildhall facility on behalf of the Town Council.

The Mouse Hole Cafe at 60!

The Mouse hole café, located in the basement of Abingdon Town Hall, is turning 60 this weekend!

The café is open 10AM- 4PM Saturday 19th January and to celebrate its birthday all hot drinks will be only 60p!!

AAAHS Talk days at Abingdon Museum

Every third Saturday of the month  Come and listen to a local expert talk about interesting topics at the museum. Every third Saturday of the month, three talks will take place around the museum galleries. Each talk wil last 30 minutes and will be about different subjects about Abingdon's history or chosen objects in the museum collection.

Please check the museum events programme for themes and times for each talk day.

Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames Charity Dinner

The Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames, Cllr Margaret Crick, is hosting this year’s Charity Dinner on Friday 1st March 2019.

The event is being held to raise money for her two Chosen Charities: Be Free Young Carers and Abingdon Carousal.

The tickets are £45 pp and will include a 3 course-meal and entertainment for the evening.

Calling all Bands for Music in the Park!

Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council are once again organising the popular “Music in the Park” event.  Music in the Park has taken place in the Abbey Grounds every year since its inception as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012, attracting large crowds with 3,500 wristbands being made available in the spring. This year Music in the Park takes place in the evening of Saturday 1st June, following on from the popular daytime event, Fun in the Park.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree!

Recycle Your Christmas Tree!

This is a reminder that as usual, now that the Christmas festivities are concluded, you can bring your Christmas tree to the Market Place to be recycled into woodchip.

This annual event takes place on the Saturday after Twelfth Night and this year is scheduled for Saturday 5th January from 9am to 3pm. This service is provided by the Town Council.

The woodchip produced will help to line our woodland pathways and provide compost for allotments and flowerbeds.

Launch of Abingdon-on-Thames cinema announced - Friday 21st December

The 1960s extension to Abingdon’s Guildhall – known as the Abbey Hall – is being brought back to life with a launch date this December.  The building will be transformed with state-of-the-art projection and surround sound equipment, cinema seating and a finely-stocked bar. Named ‘The Abbey Cinema’, the new venue will be kicking off a run of new releases just in time for Christmas, including Mary Poppins Returns, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, Robin Hood and Wreck it Ralph, alongside festive favourites such as It’s a Wonderful Life, The Grinch & Nativity Rocks!.
